New Delhi: In a significant move towards the modernization of soldier gear, Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), a leading Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has officially entered into a strategic alliance with global sportswear giant Adidas India.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the TCL headquarters in Kanpur on January 2, 2026. This partnership is set to revolutionize the footwear standards for the Indian Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, by providing world-class, high-performance Physical Training (PT) shoes.
Focus on Performance and Soldier Welfare
The collaboration aims to address the unique and rigorous demands of Indian soldiers who operate in diverse and extreme conditions—from the icy heights of Siachen to the desert sands of Rajasthan. The TCL and Adidas India partnership will leverage Adidas’s cutting-edge athletic technology and TCL’s decades of expertise in military-grade manufacturing.
During the signing ceremony, Vice Admiral Rajat Kapoor, Controller of Logistics (Indian Navy), and Mr. Sunil Date, CMD of TCL, emphasized that this initiative is a major step toward enhancing the operational readiness and physical well-being of the troops.
Key Features of the New High-Performance Footwear
The upcoming range of PT footwear is designed to meet international standards while being optimized for Indian terrain. Key technical features include:
- Superior Cushioning: Advanced shock absorption to reduce fatigue during intensive training.
- Breathable Materials: Moisture-wicking fabrics to keep feet dry and prevent infections in humid climates.
- Anti-Slip Soles: Specially engineered grip optimized for various Indian soil types.
- Lightweight Construction: Using high-tech polymers to ensure maximum agility without compromising durability.
Boosting ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’
This alliance is a cornerstone of the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) mission. The footwear will be produced at the Ordnance Equipment Factory Kanpur (OEFC), a specialized unit of TCL.
The agreement also includes a significant technology transfer from Adidas, empowering TCL to indigenize advanced footwear manufacturing processes. While the initial focus is on the Indian Navy and Army, the project is expected to expand to paramilitary forces and state police departments in the near future.
Conclusion
The TCL and Adidas India partnership marks a new era in Indian defence procurement, where global innovation meets indigenous manufacturing. By equipping our “Rakhshaks” with the best possible gear, Bharat is not only modernizing its military but also strengthening its domestic industrial base.
